What is Bone Grafting?

A bone graft is a surgical procedure in which donor bone tissues are used to supplement the structures of the teeth and jaw to provide support where bone loss has occurred. A bone graft is traditionally done with banked cadaver bone. This bone material has become the new standard of care because it is safe, effective and readily available while reducing patient discomfort.

How Do I Know If I Need a Bone Graft?

Dr. Jammal and his team may recommend a bone graft for the following reasons:

You’re receiving a dental implant. Oftentimes, if a tooth is missing and needs to be replaced with a dental implant, a bone graft is needed to create a strong base for the implant.
You’re struggling with gum disease. Gum disease doesn’t just affect the gums – it also affects the integrity of the teeth. Patients with gum disease may need a bone graft to supplement tooth loss.

You’re experiencing bone loss. Bone grafts are used to supplement the bone tissues in any structure of the mouth, including the jaw. If you’re experiencing bone loss or tooth loss due to age or disease, a bone graft can be used to help support these structures.

5What Can I Expect During My Bone Grafting Procedure?

Your bone graft will be performed by Dr. Jammal and his expert dental team in our comfortable office. Before your bone graft begins, Dr. Jammal will administer an anesthetic to your treatment area. Once the area is numb, Dr. Jammal will then begin to thoroughly clean your treatment area. Synthetic or natural bone tissue will then be placed into your treatment area. Over the course of several months the bone graft will be replaced by your own bone, building or maintaining the previously deficient site.

The cost of your bone graft will vary depending on the extent of treatment needed to help you achieve your healthiest smile. From the moment you walk through the door, the entire staff treats you with the utmost respect, kindness, and compassion. You can tell they genuinely care about your comfort and your overall dental health not just getting you in and out the door. They take the time to thoroughly explain every treatment plan, review your options with complete transparency, and make sure you understand exactly what to expect. That level of honesty and attention is hard to find. Today I had to have a tooth extracted, and I can honestly say it was the best dental experience I’ve ever had. Dr. Jammal is incredibly gentle and has an amazing bedside manner. I’ve never had another dentist numb me with Novocaine the way he did. Usually when a dentist says..Just a little pinch. It’s not just a tiny pinch lol but!! With Dr. Jamal, that “tiny pinch” was actually just a tiny pinch. I barely felt it. Before I knew it, my tooth was out. The entire process was quick, smooth, and painless. Throughout the procedure, he constantly checked on me and made sure I was comfortable every step of the way.
His dental hygienist was equally amazing so gentle, patient, and thorough. You can tell everyone on the team genuinely enjoys what they do.
And his dental assistant brought such positive energy into the room! Her charisma and personality instantly made me feel more relaxed and comfortable.
Dr. Jammal is clearly passionate about helping people achieve healthy, beautiful smiles, and it shows not only in the exceptional care he provides but also in the incredible team he has built around him. Every single person I interacted with was professional, caring, and all around absolutely wonderful. This includes the ladies at the front desk! :)
